Life Members of Canberra City Band Inc

Life Membership is awarded by the Committee in perpetuity to individuals who have been deemed to have made a very significant contribution to the organisation, considering factors such as length of service and commitment.

Loretta Vesperman 2010 Loretta Vesperman is awarded Life Membership of the Canberra City Band organisation on the first of June 2010 for outstanding contributions to its output and success from 1978 until 1998. Her selfless devotion to duties is demonstrated by her establishment of the CCB Library, research into copyright concerns, fundraising efforts and assistance with the drafting of the original constitution (when CCB incorporated). These efforts have been performed in the true Australian spirit of volunteering and community involvement, and are most deserved of Life recognition.
Paul Gamp 2010 Paul Gamp is awarded Life Membership of the Canberra City Band organisation on the first of June 2010 for outstanding contributions to its output and success from 1961 until 2007. His selfless devotion to duties is demonstrated by his strong support as a committee member, tuba and French horn player and in the significant role he played in keeping the organisation functioning between the Bill Hoffmann and Keith Helgesen eras. These efforts have been performed in the true Australian spirit of volunteering and community involvement, and are most deserved of Life recognition.
Peter McDonald 2010 Peter McDonald is awarded Life Membership of the Canberra City Band organisation for outstanding contributions to its output and success over many decades.  His selfless devotion to the organisation is demonstrated by his strong support as a tuba and bass guitar player, equipment transport provider, chaperone and newsletter editor. Additionally, throughout his lengthy service, Peter has proven to be a welcome fountain of ideas. These efforts have been performed in the true Australian spirit of volunteering and community involvement, and are most deserved of Life recognition.
Sandra Cruikshank 2009 Sandra Cruikshank is awarded Life Membership of the Canberra City Band organisation on the twelfth of May 2009 for outstanding contributions to its output and success over many years.  Her selfless devotion to duties demonstrated by her strong support as a committee member, passionate performance in the role of secretary, musical leadership and adaptability in the clarinet and saxophone arenas, including committing to three ensembles, have been performed in the true Australian spirit of volunteering and community involvement, and are most deserved of Life recognition.
Bernadette (Bernie) Evans 2009 Bernadette Evans is awarded Life Membership of the Canberra City Band organisation on the twelfth of May 2009 for outstanding contributions to its output and success over many years.  Her selfless devotion to duties demonstrated by her strong support as a committee member, passionate performance in the role of band music librarian and musical leadership in the flute and piccolo arena have been performed in the true Australian spirit of volunteering and community involvement, and are most deserved of Life recognition.
John Sharpe 2009 John Sharpe is awarded Life Membership of the Canberra City Band organisation on the twelfth of May 2009 for outstanding contributions to its output and success over many years.  His selfless devotion to duties demonstrated by his strong support and passion to recording the history of live and recorded music in the Canberra region, including published books and articles highlighting the role of Canberra City Band, and mentoring instrumentally through the example of experience, including committing to two ensembles, have been performed in the true Australian spirit of volunteering and community involvement, and are most deserved of Life recognition.
William (Bill) Hoffman, OAM 2009 Bill Hoffman is awarded Life Membership of the Canberra City Band for outstanding contributions to the organisation including: being the inaugural bandmaster at the reformation of CCB in 1947; running the band from 1947 to 1976; facilitating the change from a brass band formation to a concert band in 1948 (making CCB the oldest community concert band in Australia) and; researching and detailing the history of Canberra City Band.
Keith Helgesen 2005 Keith Helgesen is awarded Life Membership of the Canberra City Band organisation as at 2005 for outstanding contributions to its output and success over many years. His selfless devotion to duties demonstrated by his strong leadership as Conductor, Director of Music and Music Arranger and, in particular his passionate performance in the development of junior musicians, have placed Canberra City Band in the forefront of community banding and earned the respect of the Australian music fraternity. These significant achievements have been attained in the true Australian spirit of mateship and togetherness, and are most deserved of Life recognition.
Robert (Bob) Wood 1998 Bob Wood is awarded Life Membership of the Canberra City Band organisation as at 1998 for outstanding contributions to its output and success over many decades.  His selfless devotion to duties demonstrated by his strong support as a committee member, equipment transport provider, social function logistics co-ordinator and in the significant role of facilities and centre manager, all while steadfastly contributing musically, have been performed in the true Australian spirit of volunteering and community involvement, and are most deserved of Life recognition.
Colin Fischer, MBE 1994 Colin Fischer is awarded Life Membership of the Canberra City Band organisation as at 1994 for outstanding contributions to its output and success over many years.  His selfless devotion to duties demonstrated by strong leadership, passion and exemplary guidance as Conductor and Music Director placed Canberra City Band in the forefront of community banding and earned the respect of the Australian music fraternity. These significant achievements have been attained in the true Australian spirit of mateship and togetherness, and are most deserved of Life recognition.
